What Drives the Price of an Attendance Machine
Two machines that both “punch” attendance can be several hundred dirhams apart. The difference usually comes from five things.
1. How staff are identified
Fingerprint is the most affordable technology and suits most offices. Face recognition costs more because it needs a camera, infrared illumination and anti-spoofing, but it is contactless and works for staff whose fingerprints wear down. Palm reading sits at the top of the range and is the usual answer for manual and industrial workforces. 2. Headcount and arrival peaks
Entry-level clocks are built for a single entrance and a modest number of users. When a few hundred people arrive within the same 15 minutes, a larger terminal with faster matching avoids a queue at the door, and that speed is part of what you pay for.
3. Door control and cards

4. Cloud and multiple branches

A reader at a construction gate, warehouse dock or outdoor site faces dust, heat and rough handling, and a terminal specified for that position costs more than a reception-desk clock. A handheld terminal such as the S922 is the highest-priced option because it goes to the workforce rather than waiting at a door.
The Costs Beyond the Machine
The machine price is rarely the whole budget. A complete quote should itemise the following, so ask for each line before comparing suppliers.
- VAT: listed prices exclude VAT, which is charged at the standard rate of 5% in the UAE, according to the Federal Tax Authority. A machine listed at AED 1,000 therefore costs AED 1,050 including VAT.

Cheap Marketplace Machines vs a Supported Terminal
Search for an attendance machine price in the UAE and most results are marketplace listings, many of them unbranded clocks. They can be cheaper, but the price gap usually reflects what is missing:
- Software and reports: many basic clocks export a raw log that someone still has to turn into payroll figures by hand.
- Local setup: nobody configures your shifts, rest days and overtime rules, or connects the export to your payroll package.
- Support and spares: when the device fails, there is often no local engineer and no like-for-like replacement.
- Data protection: fingerprints and face templates are personal data. The UAE’s Personal Data Protection Law, Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021, is summarised on the official UAE Government portal, and a supported system makes it easier to control where that data is stored and who can see it.
For a handful of staff at one door, a basic clock can be enough. Once attendance feeds payroll, WPS or overtime, a supported biometric time attendance system usually costs less over its life than a cheap machine that needs manual fixes every month.
