A face terminal needs to see the face; iris recognition reads accurately through glasses, a mask, a niqab or a hijab, which in UAE workplaces is a practical difference rather than a theoretical one. Iris is also the most stable biometric — unlike a fingerprint it does not wear down with manual work, and unlike a face it does not change with age or a beard. It costs more and enrolment takes longer, so it suits high‑assurance areas and workforces where face terminals create daily exceptions.

Palm recognition reads the print and crease pattern across the whole palm instead of one fingertip. It is contactless, and because the palm is far less exposed to wear than fingertips, it succeeds with construction, workshop and kitchen staff whose fingerprints repeatedly fail to enrol. It is also harder to spoof than a surface fingerprint.
