If the reader sits at a gate, on a scaffold entrance or anywhere exposed to sun, sand or rain, an indoor unit will fail within months. Genuine IP65‑rated terminals — ViRDi in particular — are built with sealed housings and coated sensors for exactly this.

Fully contactless and much faster at a busy entrance. A modern face terminal matches a walking employee in well under a second, so a queue of 300 clears without a bottleneck.
Walk‑through matching means no stopping and no touching. This is the single biggest practical advantage over fingerprint on large sites at shift change.
Construction, workshop and kitchen staff frequently fail fingerprint enrolment. Face recognition sidesteps the problem entirely.
Quality terminals reject a printed photo or a video played on a phone. Cheap units often do not — we only supply models that pass this test.
Infrared illumination lets good terminals work in darkness and in harsh UAE sun, where basic camera‑only units fail at both extremes.

Yes, biometric attendance systems are widely and lawfully used across the UAE. Modern terminals do not store fingerprint or face images — they store an encrypted mathematical template from which the original cannot be reconstructed. Good practice, and what we recommend, is to tell employees in writing what is collected and why, keep the data on systems you control, and retain it only as long as payroll and labour record requirements demand. If your organisation is subject to specific data protection obligations, take your own legal advice on retention periods.
It happens in every large workforce, particularly among manual workers whose ridge detail has worn down. The practical answers are to enrol a different finger, lower the matching threshold slightly for that individual, issue them a card, or move them to a face terminal. We check enrolment success during installation rather than leaving you to find out at the first shift change.
A quality terminal cannot. Anti‑spoofing uses infrared and depth sensing to confirm a real three‑dimensional face, so printed photos and phone screens are rejected. Very cheap units often lack this, which is a genuine reason not to buy the lowest‑priced face terminal on the market. Every face model we supply has working anti‑spoofing.
Two separate limits matter: how many biometric templates the unit stores, and how many people pass through per minute. Storage ranges from a few hundred on entry‑level units to tens of thousands on enterprise models. Throughput usually bites first — a single terminal at a gate where 400 people arrive in a ten‑minute window will create a queue regardless of its storage capacity. We size on peak arrival rate, not headcount.
Yes. Most of the terminals we supply are access control devices with attendance software layered on top, so the same reader can release an electric lock or turnstile while recording the punch. This is usually cheaper than buying separate access control and attendance systems, and it means one enrolment per employee instead of two.
Yes. Matching happens on the device itself, so clocking continues normally with no network at all. Punches are stored in onboard memory and sync to the server when the connection returns. Only live dashboards and remote enrolment need connectivity.
